Neutrals for Spring

Spring is in the air and so are neutral colors! I have always carried the philosophy: "when in doubt, go with neutrals". Remember how your mom used to tell you that you should wear make up that makes it look like you are NOT wearing make up? Here is the solution!

All my favorite lines are releasing new color palettes in neutral colors-which just so happen to be my favorites!

First up we have Bobbie Brown's Ultra Nude Eye Palette

Have I ever told you how much I love Bobbi Brown? Their make up lasts all day long and it looks fabulous. And with these colors what more could you need? Every shade of neutral for every skin tone! These tones are perfect for work, play and more! This palette is only $45 and can be found HERE

Next up to bat we have Urban Decay's Naked Palette

This palette just makes me giggle inside. While you get smaller amounts of each shadow there is a much wider variety. How often do you look at a palette and think "hmm I bet I use 2 out of 6 of these shadows"? Well I would use ALL of these!!! yumm! This palette is $50 and can be found HERE

Last but not least we have another of my favorite brands- Two Faced Natural at Night Sexy and Sultry Eye Shadow Palette

It has three categories-Night, Classic and Fashion. This is perfect to keep in your purse for having to change shadows on the fly. It also comes with a little card that tells you exactly where to put the shadows for that perfect look! This is the cheapest of the palettes coming in at $36 and can be found HERE

The only questions left is which palette do I try first???

My Favorite Scents

My Favorite Scents

Michael Kors Michael Kors Eau De Parfum
$75 - saksfifthavenue.com

Viva la Juicy 1.7 oz EDP
$69 - juicycouture.com

Gucci Envy 6.8 oz Body Lotion
$50 - sephora.com

I was looking at my friend Erin's blog which can be found HERE, and discovered she had such cool things on her blog--even the set up of them! So I followed one of her links and landed myself on a website where you could create this little things above! So here are my most favorite scents of all time!

1. Michael is my go to scent-it is full of gardenias and lovely floral smells
2. Viva la Juicy-I actually stole this one from Natalie but for good reason! It smells...well, Juicy!
3. Armani Code- this is one that I get asked about A LOT! It is a darker scent and kind of musky but in a feminine way. It smells very different in the bottle than it does on my skin. It is my "out on the town" smell.
4. Marc Jacobs Daisy-You guessed it-floral all the way. Sweet and delish! And the bottle is too cute.
5. Chenal Chance Fraiche- you HAVE to try the green one. If I had millions of dollars I would bathe in this stuff. I am even willing to say IT IS MY MOST FAVORITE FRAGRANCE EVER! People stop me on the street to ask what I am wearing. It is to die for and it lasts all day long.
6. Gucci Envy- I was babysitting one day when the mom sprayed this stuff and instantly my nose perked up. It is classy and refined. Kind of like Chenal. I feel down right sexy in this stuff. yum!

All of these have links above but of course you can find them all at my homeland of Sephora. Click HERE

Thanks Erin and Ashes of Laughter for the inspiration!

snuggling up with a book and some tea?

In the lovely city of Little Rock it is cold and gloomy. While everyone is at work you know they have one thing on their mind...I want to be home, curled up, reading a good book and drinking some hot tea. Or maybe that is just me thinking that. For those of you who are sharing my feelings I have a few essentials to share...

First is called Book Magic. You know when you are reading and your hands get a little tired from holding the pages open? Well here is the solution to your problem!

Book Magic is actually one of those gadgets that makes me think "ugh, I should have invented this". This little piece of metal holds your book open! GENIUS! Now you can lay your book in your lap or on the couch and it will stay open!! YAY! It gets better. I know what you are thinking; But Megan, what can be better than this?? Answer: THE PRICE! It is only $2.99!! Eek!! Click HERE to buy it online from The Container Store.

So now we have our book covered but what about the tea. Now the other day I mentioned my favorite diffuser, but for the normal people out there that use the good ole tea in a bag I have a great gadget for you. Introducing the Tea Buddy!

This little guy sits on top of your mug and not only keeps your tea warm, but holds the tea bag. You simply pull the string up and slip it into the little slit at the top. It keeps your tea bag tight against the top so when you take the top off to take a sip you don't have to mess with the bag! yay!! How do they come up with this stuff?? Once again this is a great deal at only $4.99. Click HERE to buy it online from The Container Store.

They way I see it you have the perfect set up. All that is missing is the cozy blanket and book--by the way, our bookclub is reading Heaven is for Real by Todd Burpo. I started it this morning and read to page 120...did I mention I have been working all day?? AKA the book is AWESOME!

Now get to READING!

Tea Infusers

A while back I talked about a few of the things I had gotten for Christmas, but I forgot to mention my most favorite gadget that I received (my brother informed me it was the cheapest also). The Tea Stick Infuser. What in the world is a tea stick infuser? Why it is an ingenious little thing!! The picture explains a lot.
Basically you twist off the little silver part on the bottom and fill it with tea--this works perfectly for all loose leaf tea (like all the kinds I get from Teavana). Then you simply place it in your cup of boiling water and stir it around. That's right! No more bouncing tea bags or straining! This baby works like a spoon, you stir and you can watch the tea seep out and diffuse. THEN you take it out and put it in its handy holder so when it keeps dripping it will drip in the little basin and not on the table! Ta Da!! It's like modern day magic--with tea!

My brother got me this one (in purple of course) from amazon. Click HERE for the link! It comes in purple, green and red and is only $12.95! Hurry and get one!!

Hungry Girl Egg Rolls

As I am going through my emails this morning I come across one from Hungry Girl. What is she making? EGG ROLLS!!!! What are the odds??? She even uses some of the same ingredients as I do!!! Check it out!!

HERE is where you can find her whole diddy on egg roll wrappers and all the great recipes she makes with them!!  Go Hungry Girl!!!

Fully Loaded Egg Rolls
PER SERVING (1/8th of recipe, 1 egg roll): 109 calories, 1.5g fat, 380mg sodium, 15g carbs, 1g fiber, 2g sugars, 9g protein -- PointsPlus® value 3*

We loaded up our baked egg rolls with meaty goodies and MORE. These need to be tasted to be believed...

2 1/2 tbsp. reduced-sodium/lite soy sauce
1/2 tsp. sugar (or granulated no-calorie sweetener)
4 oz. raw boneless pork tenderloin, finely chopped
3 cups dry coleslaw mix
One 6-oz. can (4 oz. drained) tiny shrimp, drained
1/4 cup chopped bean sprouts
2 scallions, chopped
1 stalk celery, thinly sliced widthwise
2 tsp. crushed garlic
1 tsp. sesame oil
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/8 tsp. black pepper
8 large square egg roll wrappers (stocked with the refrigerated Asian items in the supermarket)
Optional dip: sweet & sour sauce

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Spray a large baking sheet with nonstick spray.

In a small bowl, mix 1/2 tablespoon soy sauce with sugar. Add pork and coat well. Cover and marinate in the fridge for 10 minutes.

Bring a skillet sprayed with nonstick spray to medium-high heat on the stove. Add coleslaw mix, pork, and any excess marinade. Cook and stir for 3 - 5 minutes, until pork is cooked through. Transfer to a large bowl.

Add remaining 2 tablespoons soy sauce to the bowl. Add all other remaining ingredients except wrappers and optional dip. Mix well. For added flavor intensity, cover and refrigerate for 20 minutes (optional).

Lay an egg roll wrapper flat on a dry surface. Evenly distribute 1/8th of slaw mixture (about 1/3 cup) in a row a little below the center of the wrapper. Moisten all four edges by dabbing your fingers in water and going over the edges smoothly. Fold the sides about 3/4 inch toward the middle, to keep mixture from falling out. Roll the wrapper up around the mixture and continue to the top.

Seal with a dab of water. Place on the baking sheet, and repeat with remaining wrappers.

Spray egg rolls with nonstick spray. Bake in the oven until golden brown, 25 - 30 minutes.

If you like, slice in half and dunk in sweet & sour sauce!

Homemade Baked Egg Rolls

Since I have been thinking so much about the wok I decided to go to the grocery store to get ingredients for a stir fry. What did I come home with? Ingredients to make egg rolls. Yes, egg rolls. They seem like they would be hard to make but they were sooooo easy!!!! Here are the ingredients you need!!

Egg Roll Wrappers
I found this in the section with lettuce, tofu, and cabbage mixes in the grocery store! Very inexpensive and it comes with 21 wrappers. I simply followed the recipe on the back and tweaked it a little :)

Lean Pork--you can omit this if you prefer vegetarian rolls
Also inexpensive-I just got the kroger brand kind.

Veggie mix, bean sprouts, oyster sauce
I got the Rainbow Slaw mix-it has broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and red cabbage and added bean sprouts!

So the recipe is as follows
Egg Roll Wrappers
Lean Pork (1lb)
Rainbow Slaw (whole bag)
Oyster Sauce (2 tbsp)
Bean Sprouts (1/2 can)
Minced Ginger (1 tsp)

Serving Size: 2 egg rolls per person- 10 servings
Calories- 156 per 2 rolls

Preheat oven to 450

In a wok (or large skillet) heat the lean pork and ginger until slightly brown (2-3 min), add in the veggies and bean sprouts and oyster sauce. * I added some hoisin sauce too. I wish that I had added garlic to it as well!!! Let the veggies get tender. Let the mixture cool a bit. Take the egg wrapper squares and make them look like a diamond. Put two tablespoons of the mixture into the center. Roll the bottom up over the mixture and fold in both sides. Put a dab of water on the remaining top corner and roll the egg roll up!! So simple!

Here is a chart to help!

Spray baking sheet with non stick spray. Places rolls on baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. I did NOT flip mine in the middle but I wish I had. Maybe check them at 6 minutes and flip them over.

Serve with sweet and sour sauce, hot mustard or hoisin sauce!! They were soooo delish!! Here is the finished product!

My Wishlist-Wok

Earlier today I was watching my favorite channel The Food Network...sigh I just love it. And Guy Fierri was on and he was making some fabulous looking stir fry in a wok. He told this little story about how he stole his mothers wok when he went to college and that it is his favorite pot/pan that he has. I started pondering. A wok really would be a great thing to have. Especially since I am eating better and LOVE stir fry. When I visited Chicago years ago there were stir fry restaurants on every corner. Not like Ghengis Grill but onces loaded down with fresh veggies and meats. You put all you wanted in a bowl and they cooked it up for you. YUM! Why the stir fry craze has yet to come to Little Rock I will never know, but we can all get a little creative right here at home!

After some research I found a few woks that were reasonably priced!

Wok #1--Amazon.com
This baby comes with a lid, spoon, and little book! I like the ones with the big handles so I can pretend I am stir frying like the really kids (aka with my hands and not just a spoon). It has a carbon/steel material and is only $27.04! Click HERE.

Wok #2--Williams Sonoma

This one is hammered and they say that no two look alike. It also has a little ring that you put on the stove to keep the wok stable. It does NOT come with a lid. But it has a pretty price as well, $24.99. Click HERE.  But fear not! You can buy a separate lid for only $13.00! Click HERE for the lid. So while this pan is more expensive with the lid separate it does include the ring! My birthday is coming up and I told my mom I wanted a wok. But which wok do I want?! HELP!

Road Tested Blush

Many moons ago I published a post on my favorite blush--Nars Super Orgasm. Click HERE for post. Seeing as that was August I have since discovered more blushy goodness. Now don't get me wrong, Nars is my number one go to blush! I mean look at it!! It is GORGEOUS!

How can you say no to that sparkly goodness?? BUT if you are not into the powder then let me introduce you to the STAIN. Such a scary word right? Seems so permanent. Will it ever come off? Eek! Well fear not ladies, I am here to tell you that the stain is pretty tubular :) My favorite is an old Benefit staple...Benetint in Rose! And boy does it smell like yummy roses!! It is actually both a lip and cheek stain. Two for the price of one. Now it looks super scary red right? It really isn't. It comes on a pale-ish red. P.S. yes I realize it looks like nail polish but it is NOT! I should also mention that the stain does not last forever on my lips (which I like). I think I do too much talking :)

And if this super red color scares you go for the PosieTint. Same thing but pinkier. AND I have not tried this one but here is a peachy/mango colored one called ChaChaTint! All of these beautiful colors can be found and my mothership (sephora. duh). Click HERE! I like to keep these guys in my purse (I have tiny travel ones) for touch ups too!

Now as far as blush goes there are always some major questions. For example: Where do I put this stuff?? What I like to do is smile in the mirror--the big puffy "apples" of your cheeks are the starting point. Start from their and go up towards your temples in a semi circle. Now this little picture (original source located HERE) shows different face shapes. Now I am describing the picture they have for a "long face". If you have ever seen me you know my face is not long at all. I am probably an oval-but I am not into the clown look. You are welcome to test out the different "directions" based on your face type--but in all my years of blush beauty I have gone with "long".

Follow her lead...she is rocking the blush!

color coded cord organizers

The other night after losing my iPhone cord for my computer AGAIN I decided to put an end to this madness. What did I do? I went on amazon and looked up cord organizers. What did I find? These bad boys...

Rather plain looking stickers right? Wrong! These things are awesome! Basically what you do is wrap these stickers around your cords like flags (I also wrote on mine with sharpie). For example, on one end of my iPhone cord I put the big purple sticker. On the part where it plugs into the plugie bit that goes into the outlet I put a purple dot. Now I will always know that these are my cords! I put a yellow one around my headphones-with five people in our house who all have some sort of iDevice it is hard to tell whose cords are whose! Solution? LABELS! They also can be used for things like TV cords. Say you crawl behind your TV stand to unplug your TV and you think "well crap, which cord belongs to the TV?" Now you know. Put on flag on the cord by the part that plugs into the TV, the other on the part that plugs into the wall and the dots go on where it needs to be plugged in. I have a power bar with tons of plugs. Now this cute little dots will tell me which device is plugged into which hole! Ahhh the power of labels!

Best part? They are cheap! $4.25 gets you around 200 labels! woo hoo! Click HERE to purchase!

Apple TV

Today I am going to do a little bragging on myself. About a month or so ago I invested in Apple TV and man has it changed my life. This one is a must have especially if you are a netflix user. I use netflix mainly for TV shows...ok only for TV shows. I don't have time to watch an entire movie so TV shows are it for me. I usually get the discs from netflix but I also love the instant feature. With apple TV you can watch netflix straight from your TV. Now I should mention I don't have cable in my room because I literally only watch Netflix or shows online. So I purchased apple TV and set it up and boom there it is on my TV. Anything you can watch instantly on netflix you can watch from the comfort of your own TV...my computer screen was getting really old. It is also awesome because you can listen to music and watch movies/rent them straight from iTunes!! And if you have an iPad you can make it mirror itself on the TV. Meaning have a giant sized iPad! EEK!!! So apple TV is $99 and you can click HERE to learn more about it. I feel certain I did not do it justice. This might also be the reason I didn't sleep last night...I got stuck watching episode after episode of Gossip Girl. Damn you netflix!

collapsible water bottles

Let's talk green. The new trend these days is all about saving money and going green at the same time right? But what about convenience? I am all about the big ole water bottles like the Nalgene ( I take this bad boy to work out and it is great for making sure you get in all your daily water because it holds 32 ounces). The Nalgene is also awesome because it is indestructible-you can run over it in a car! BUT it can get kind bulky. Yes they make smaller ones but it is still a bit of a pain to carry them around in your purse. So what is the solution you might say?

The collapsible water bottle! So the basic idea is you fill it up and and when you are done it collapses (obviously) or scrunch up and fit right in your purse, bag, whatever. How is that for green/saving money/convenient?? Did I mention they are inexpensive? Only $7.99 at the Container Store! Click HERE. So next time you drink a bottled water think about how you can save the earth with one of these bad boys!!

new year, new look

Alright, now that the holidays are all finally over I don't have any excuses to not blog. With this new year we are looking at a new look too with a bit of a simpler background. As far as the Dukan Diet goes, I am over it. What you will learn about me (if you haven't already) I am one of those people that tries every diet under the sun and eventually quits them. The only success I have ever really had in dieting is eating healthy and working out (surprise surprise right?). So I am nixing the "diet" following and going for the lifestyle change plan. I will be doing bootcamp 3 times a week, personal training twice a week and testing out kickboxing and yoga classes soon. Can you tell that I like the classes?? I don't do well on my own. So to kick off the new year I am going to start with some awesome kitchen gadgets that I got for christmas. Hopefully these will inspire me to eat better (which starts tomorrow)!

1. Popware Pop Up Colander

This thing is pretty cool. The bowl part pops out into different sizes so you can strain anything from fruit to pasta. I also love that is has stands so that it can sit and drain and then it folds down so that it will store flat (aka doesn't take up a lot of space). Mine is all purple of course :) and it is from Dillards. It can also be found HERE.

2. Rikon Measuring Set

This cute measuring set is awesome. For the Teaspoons/Tablespoons they look like tiny fish and are all connected to a long cord. The cups come with a leveler so you can make sure you get the exact amount you want. I for one am so pumped about these. They can be purchased HERE.

3. Olive Oil Sprayer
This might be one of my favorite new gadgets. It is a mister for olive oil! You fill it up with your favorite flavor of olive oil (I like the basil kind) and then you pump it and spray it (like hairspray) and it mists olive oil on your food. This is great because my personal trainer man has been explaining how you should always eat a protein, carbs (fruits and veggies) and a good fat (olive oil, almonds, etc.) for every meal. This will be perfect for salads and really everything!! Needless to say I am pumped. Click HERE to buy.

So here are just a few of my new Christmas treats. Can't wait to put them into use soon!!
