Tailgating Must-Haves

Every tailgater has their own routine for how things are done. Food, beer, music, decorations, etc. Here are a few things that I think are absolute MUST-HAVES for football season.

I swear I have been waiting all day to write this blog post. Ever since I received my Food Network email this morning that contained this little gem...
The Triple Crock Pot
Just look at it for a minute. It is a piece of pure genius. Three little wells that hold different dips. I am envisioning, meatballs, spinach dip and cheese dip in mine. And then EXTRA little pods that hold chips, toothpicks, sliced veggies, napkins, etc. This baby was made for the tailgate! I mean seriously, how perfect is this for tailgating. Can't decide which new Pinterest dish to create? Well make three!
You can even change the temperature on each little pod (I realize pod is not the technical term, but hey, I like it). It also comes with a lid so that you can take this bad boy anywhere. It can be purchased on FoodNetwork.com for $69.95. A pretty good deal for such a cool tool!

Another crucial tailgating tool? The Koozie. I have a small Koozie obsession. Ever since my friend Colleen introduced me to the idea of constantly keeping one in my purse I have never looked back. Just think about it. It keeps your beer/soft drink cold, while keeping your hand warm. Which is great, but mainly it puts a pretty little "mine" tag on your drink. Who can claim that a purple monogrammed koozie is theirs when it has your initials all over it? Remember my birthday koozies? They are PERFECT for this ort of thing!
And now for a special recipe...this is what I would put in the triple crock pot. My favorite meatballs are made with Raspberry Salsa from Robert Rothschild's farm. It is gourmet salsa that is really similar to a BBQ sauce. Buy a bag of frozen meatballs at the grocery store (any kind is fine) and brown them up in a big skillet. Next toss them in the crock pot with a few jars of this stuff and you are good to go. Make sure to serve with toothpicks. You can get this salsa at specialty food stores---Catering to You has them in LR. It is around $9 a pop. You can find it HERE on The Farm Basket. This is soooo good and perfect for a tailgate! Stay tuned for more items that are must haves for football events and tailgates!

Bargain Shopping: Halloween Decorations

My family always goes all out on Halloween and we end up spending way too much money are decorations that get ripped down or thrown in the attack and are yucky for next year. The other day I was strolling through the Dollar Tree (I know, I know, I love it!) and low and behold they had Halloween decorations, and not just skimpy ones! They have spider webs and caution tape. Things that I was spending crazy amounts of money on at Halloween Express. Think of all the decorating you can do for mere dollars!!!

They also have candy...while not necessarily name brand (though some are) they are really the same things. And hey, its Halloween, no child really cares what kind of candy they get...it's all the same right?? But how cute are these little halloween carry bags??? It makes me want to go trick-or-treating just so I can use one. They also have door covers and wall hangings so you can deck out your house! I even bought some for my classroom. They have window clings that look like bloody hands and blood spatter, witches that look like they ran into your tree, and even costume add ons. So why spend tons of money when you can get the same thing at dollar tree?? *I do realize my dollar tree obsession has grown, but it is just crazy not to go there. I am not saying feed your family, but hey a dish towel is a dish towel is a dish towel, and when I am in my cheap house saving mode, a $1 dish towel is good enough for me.

But seriously! Check out their decorations! Here is a super cute and somewhat cheesy video!

Click HERE for their website. And yes, if you watched the video, I do in fact get their weekly texts. I am THAT girl.

Magazine Mania

I decided it was high time I talk about my magazine obsessions. I talk about everything else I am obsessed with, right? I really only have 3 magazines that I am a regular subscriber too:

1. REAL Simple
2. Cooking Light
3. Glamour

I will add that if I had the funds to get US weekly or some other gossip mag. weekly I would totally do it. But those puppies get pricey!!

 1. REAL Simple. Where do I begin? This is my go to magazine. It has organizational tips, new uses for old things (like turn a button into an earring holder or use bubble wrap to pad your hangers so they don't leave those awful marks). They have guides on fashion, home decor, and even food! It is the overall package! And while it sounds silly, I even love the paper that they use...it just feels different! Not all glossy!

Right now you can get a year long subscription for $24 and you get a free guide of your choice (organizing tips, food, etc.). If I had to choose just ONE magazine this one would be it!!

 2. Cooking Light. Now I do actually think that Cooking Light and REAL Simply are done by the same people...but that is really just a guess (they are always sending me emails promoting the other magazine). This one is rather self explanatory. They have cooking recipes that are LIGHT! Fancy that. It is chock full of tasty recipes. My favorite part? It includes all the nutritional values (so does REAL simple) so that you can see exactly what is in everything you make! No factoring necessary! And the food is ultra yummy. This months cover is all about Quick Breads--banana, walnut, maple, etc. and has a very yummy cinnamonny bread on the cover. BREAD THAT IS LIGHT? That is right (like that rhyme?).

Cooking Light runs at around $18 for 12 issues or $24 for 24 issues! What a steal!

3. Last but definitely not least...GLAMOUR. Glamour is my source of all things trendy. Clothes, hair, colors, styles and then you have health and fitness, and so much more! My favorite part would be the Dos and Don'ts. What to wear and what not to wear, make up trends (and fails), road tested things (like flat irons or fitness equipment). You name it, glamour has it! They will even show you 30 days of outfits out of 4 articles of clothing! Crazy, I know.

This is my go to read if I am working out. I plop it up there on the elliptical and read away. AND I even like the real-life stories they have in there. Recently there was a letter from a victim of the Collumbine shooting that was written to victims of the Batman Movie Theatre shooting. It was so touching and I was immediately hooked. Needless to say it was a great issue! Right now you can get 12 issues for $19.99 and get free little red goodie bags (don't worry I got them). Another steal!

Organization (REAL Simple), food (Cooking Light) and fashion (GLAMOUR)! What else do you need??

Currently Watching and Currently Reading

Just a little side note that now on the right hand column you can stay up to date with what I am currently watching on Netflix AND what I am currently reading! Woo hoo!

Rachael Ray Bench Scrape

I know what you are thinking...what in the world is a bench scrape? Well Rachael Ray has come up with this handy little gadget that...you guessed it...SCRAPES! Basically you use it to scoop of food from the counter after you have chopped it. You know how you chop up tiny pieces of onion and then use the knife to scoop up those onions and drop them in the pot? Well you know longer have to touch that knife blade to your hand!

Introducing the Rachael Ray Bench Scrape (still not sure what the name means though). It can be used to scrape food off of cutting boards too! Needless to say this is a must have for me. In Eggplant :) Click HERE for the food network site! And it is only $7.95! Stocking stuffer maybe? That's right, I said stocking, as in Christmas, as in it is ALMOST that time again. How scary is that?

THIS free! The Spoonula!
But THIS and get.....
AND as a bonus if you buy any Rachael Ray bubble and brown set (talked about in THIS blog post) you will get a free Spoonula---get is? Spatula meets Spoon? Watch out Spork, the Spoonula is taking over...Click HERE for more details.

Road Tested: Face Washing Wipes

If you haven't learned by now, I am a product person and therefore I love steps and routines that involve loads of products. BUT with my busy schedule, the very last thing I want to do is 1. Turn on the water and let it get warm, wash my face and scrub with my clarisonic brush 3. Use toner...and it goes on and on and on. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE all of those things but when it is bedtime....it is bedtime. I am tired at the end of the day, who isn't? So I have found myself a little short cut. Face cleansing wipes.

Now I must be honest, I have tried many and I do NOT like the ones that make me feel greasy and gross. I have dry skin that needs moisture but there is a difference in moisture and slim.

I will say that I love the Sephora brand make up wipes, but they can get kind pricey...They are $4 for the little to go pack that has about 10 wipes. I do own some (duh, remember the big product junkie arrow that constantly points at me?) and I keep them in my gym bag. That way if I can't get home and hop in the shower ASAP my face doesn't suffer. I know, I know...brilliant! But these are great because they come in a tiny pack that fits right in your purse (or gym bag or car) and can be used whenever. Click HERE for the Sephora site.

For multiple uses I recommend Pond's. I use their Evening Soothe in the evening (duh) and I love them! My face feels clean without feeling super dry. I do still put on my moisturizer at night...if you do not do that now you better start! We aren't getting any younger and that is for sure. Especially if you are a sun buff like yours truly, MOISTURIZE! I also use Ponds dry skin moisturizer. I get the big ole one (that is really the walgreens brand).

This pack is resealable too. And to be honest I leave them by my bedside table. That way I can just wipe and be done in about 30 seconds and not even have to leave my bed. Lazy I know.

Now normally in the morning I like to wash my face as a way to wake up. But on days like today when I woke up at 7:08 and had to be AT work by 7:30 that was just not in the cards. So waa-laa Pond's classic face wipes work in a pinch. I am debating keeping some of these in my car too.

You can buy Pond's at your regular old drug store or grocery store BUT I happen to know that Ulta is having a little special on them. Buy one pack and get another half off. So for about $7 (they are around $5 a piece) I got an evening pack and a classic! **I want to add that YES I did actually go to Ulta, the rival of my mothership as I like to call Sephora. I had to! It is a NEW store in Little Rock. What is a girl to do? BUT I did not buy any make-up. As far as I can tell the prices were about the same and I do have my loyalties. BUT for deals and steals? This girl will stray.

I should also mention that the class Maybelline lime green and pink mascara is on sale at Ulta for 2 for $3. Do I need to repeat that? TWO for THREE dollars! I bought four :) That is FOUR mascaras for the price of ONE! Click HERE for the Ulta site.

So for you fellow lazy bums, get out there and get wiping!

JouleBody Wellness Cleanse

I know I talk about Erin Condren and C. Wonder a TON, but you can rest assured that this is not one of those times! JouleBody Wellness is the topic of today's discussion. The other night while pinteresting, I stumbled across one of those "pin to win" pins. I repinned it and low and behold, I got a pin saying I had won a 3 day Active cleanse. At first I thought it was a scam, but it wasn't and I am pleased to say that my cleanse came in the mail today...and is worth $265!!

This 3 day cleanse contains everything you need...literally. It contains:

9 Juices--3 different varieties
3 Bars--can be eaten any time of day (1x)
6 Pre-packaged foods. MADE FRESH by the JouleBody people themselves

Some of the meals include a fancy coleslaw, asian salad, yummy soup, a mexican burrito type thing and pesto lasagna (which smells the best by far!)

What is so wonderful about this kit? It is delivered straight to your door and is already refrigerated, you can actually eat food and not just liquids the whole time, and the packaging is labeled to tell you when to eat what! Did I mention the food looks and smells wonderful?? It is also gluten free and vegan!

I have decided to start the cleanse tomorrow since the food is fresh and all BUT there is an Arkansas Razorback football game in Little Rock on Saturday...which means no beer and tailgating food for me. At first I was bummed but then I realized what a great opportunity this will be to show my willpower (if I actually have any). As my mom says, surely I can go ONE day without beer and fried food. Here is hoping.

For more information on JouleBody Wellness, you can find them on Facebook HERE or on their website which can be found HERE. The people were quite lovely to work with and I am really looking forward to this. You know how I am a diet junkie so I am excited about trying something new!

Look forward to new posts on how the cleanse is going...weather or not I am starving...and how the food tastes!

Thanks so much JouleBody for giving me this lovely opportunity.

P.S. isn't JouleBody such a clever name? Joule as in the weight of a calorie...get it??? I love it!

Discipline Ideas

Since I have begun teaching Lower School Spanish, I have had to come up with a lot of tips and tricks for keeping the kiddos from going crazy. One such idea I got from some things lying around my classroom.

A lot of teachers give out tickets or coupons as rewards (here at PA we give out Bruin Bucks) and the students can go buy things with these rewards. Well, after reading Harry K. Wong's First Days of School, I decided to do a reverse ticket...more like a speeding ticket, aka BAD.

I give tickets out if the student is misbehaving. All of our classroom rules are numbered. If a student breaks one of the rules they get a "bad" ticket with the number of the rule that is broken on it. It goes in this lovely blue box that has all of the classroom teachers labeled on it. They must write their name on the back of the ticket and walk past the entire class to go put their ticket into the blue box at the back of the room. When it comes time to do Treasure Box or do something fun, if they have a ticket, they will not participate.

This is also a great way for me to keep up with who is misbehaving when I need to do report cards or parent-teacher conferences.  I leave the tickets tacked to the board so that they are in clear view of everyone at all times. I even will pull them down and walk with them in my hand to make sure everyone knows they are there.

As far as the tickets go, I just use the "admit one" tickets that you can find anywhere! This way the kiddos know I have LOTS of tickets to pass out.

Wong says that once you give out a good ticket and the child is rewarded, it is hard to keep them on track after that. I think the same goes for the opposite...I never tell my students how many "bad" tickets they are allowed to get before more serious consequences come into play. That way, they are always on their toes :)

I will let you know how the tickets REALLY work at the end of the year!
